The Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition has awarded over $500,000 in prize money since it began in 1985. String, woodwind and brass musicians compete for individual prizes ranging from $500 to $6,000 to further their education. The judging panel includes members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and the prize monies for the Instrumental Competition are provided from the proceeds of Pasadena Showcase House for the Art’s annual fundraiser, the Pasadena Showcase House of Design.

Most competitors proceed to have illustrious and distinguished careers and it is a source of pride to PSHA to have contributed to their education.

The Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition is open to string and woodwind musicians ages 16-23 and brass musicians ages 17-24 who reside or attend school in Southern California.
