Cristina Mateo Saez, 19 - Clarinet

Cristina is pursuing her Bachelor of Music at The Colburn School. She has played, as soloist, the "Mozart Clarinet Concerto Kv622" with the Youth Orchestra from Almeria, Spain.

Benjamin Lash, 23 - Cello

Benjamin is pursuing a Master of Music at USC Thornton School of Music. He is currently the Principal Cellist in USC Thornton School of Music's Orchestra.

Second Prize

Annelle Gregory, 19 - Violin

Annelle attends USC Thornton School of Music. She recently was a soloist for the CIM International Music Festival Orchestra in Namedy Castle, Germany.

Riria Niimura, 20 - Flute

Riria is currently studying at The Colburn School. She has performed with the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and appeared on "Good Day LA".

Sergio Coelho, 22 - Clarinet

Sergio attends USC Thornton School of Music. He received his bachelor degree from the Academia Superior de Orquestra da Metropolitana in Portugal.

Julian Zheng, 20 - French Horn

Julian attends The Colburn School. He was Principal Horn for the American Youth Symphony and won "Most Promising Talent" at last year's Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition.

Cameron Rahmani, 20 - Bass Trombone

Cameron attends California State University Los Angeles. He plays with their Philharmonia, Brass Ensemble, Wind Ensemble and Latin Jazz Band.

 Charles Seo, 19 - Cello

Charles attends The Colburn School and is currently a senior in high school. He recently won the Gold Medal in the Houston Symphony League Concerto Competition.

Grand Prize

Hye-Ryung Lim, 21 - Flute

Hye-Ryung Lim has played the Flute for 12 years. She attends the Colburn School and attends schools for the Arts in Seoul, Korea. Hye-Ryung won the Grand Prize at the J&R Music Competition. She has performed in Korea and California. She won Grand Prize in the Korea Mozart Music Competition.

Christopher De Fazio, 19 - Cello

Christopher attends Chapman University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music in Cello Performance and Music Education. He has been studying Cello for 12 years. From 2008 to 2012 he was the Principal Cellist with the Southern California Youth Philharmonic. He has performed throughout California as a soloist.

Stella Cho, 23 - Cello
Stella attends the USC Thornton School of Music working on her Master of Arts in Music. Stella has played the Cello for 15 years. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music from the USC Thornton School of Music. In the spring of 2012, Stella won the USC Thornton Solo Bach Strings Competition.

Jack Peña, 21 -  Bassoon

Jack attends the Colburn School working
on his Bachelor of Arts in Music. He has
played the Bassoon for 7 years.He
previously studied with Hermann
Vogelstein. Jack was the Principal
Bassoonist with the Creekview Symphony
Orchestra. He was a Fellow at the
Tanglewood Music Center.

Second Prize


Micah Wright, 23 - Clarinet

Micah attends the USC Thornton School
of Music working on his Doctorate of Musical
Arts degree. He received his Master of Arts
in Music from Rice University. He has played
Clarinet for 12 years. Micah was a finalist in
the 2012 International Clarinet Association
Young Artists Competition.

Zach Thomas, 22 - Trumpet

Zach attends the Colburn School working on his Master of Arts in Music. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Music from Northwestern University. Zach has played Trumpet for 12 years. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2011. He is Principal Trumpet of the Colburn Orchestra.

Brandon Davis, 23 - Tuba     

Brandon attends the USC Thornton School of Music working on his Master of Arts in Music. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Music from the Colburn School. Brandon has studied Tuba for 11 years. He won the Jack Smith Memorial Award (Most Promising) at this Competition in 2008.

 Julian Zheng, 20 - French Horn

Julian attends the Colburn School working on his Bachelor of Arts in Music. He has studied Horn for 8 years. Julian was the winner of the 45th Premier International Solo Horn Competition held in Memphis in 2013. He has performed with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra and the Australian Youth Orchestra.

Victor Alsen, 22 - Clarinet

Victor is a Fulbright student from Oslo, Norway studying at USC.  He has been a soloist  with the Swedish National Orchestra Academy, Sodra Latin Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm’s Symphony Orchestra.  Alsen was the winner of The Audience Prize, Lungbergspriset Winds Competition.
